Research Specialist (Molecular Cytogeneticist) for the School of Public Health, UCB

The University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, is recruiting a Research Specialist (Molecular Cytogeneticist) to conduct molecular epidemiological research on human populations exposed to potential leukemogens as well as in vitro studies of chemical exposure. The ideal candidate should be able to perform cytogenetic analyses for chromosomal aberration, sister chromatid exchanges, and micronucleus determination. Molecular cytogenetic analysis will be performed using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technologies, and the use of an automated MetaSystem. Epigenetic analyses such as DNA methylation assays and DNA protein cross-links (DPCs) will be performed. The successful applicant will work independently in the laboratory, supervise and train students and research staff, maintain accurate data files, prepare written reports and write scientific manuscripts for publication, perform analyses of all laboratory data. He or she also does routine procedures such as cell cultures and chemical treatment of human cell lines. The ability to generate research ideas, develop new methods, and troubleshoot is essential for this position.
 
Qualifications:
 
Applicants should hold a M.D. and Ph.D. and have at least 3 years of post-doctoral experience working in the laboratory including extensive work with molecular cytogenetics and cell biology. Candidates with a strong research background in hematology and leukemia would be at an advantage. Experience in statistical analysis and animal studies, as well as phlebotomy certification, would be beneficial to the study. The individual must be motivated and willing to hard. The ability to communicate in Chinese (Mandarin) and English (both written and oral) would be an asset to our studies conducted in China.
 
Salary Range: $46,872 – 56,424
