JOB DESCRIPTION
The University of California Environmental Health Sciences is seeking a talented individual to oversee and perform research on the health effects associated with small particles, especially those from combustion

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently performs a wide range of highly technical and complex laboratory procedures, including producing combustion particles in laboratory flames and small engines, modifying these particles, and measuring a variety of chemical and physical properties associated with these emissions.
  • Interact with biologists in exposing cells to mixtures of particles and gases, and analyze biological endpoints in the cells using available measurement systems.
  • Investigates and recommends alternative approaches to improve the quality of results; ability to troubleshoot independently 
  • Recommends new equipment and supplies needed for specialized procedures 
  • May assist in grant and other funding application preparation
  • Review literature for related research developments and new techniques 
  • Prepares written materials, charts and graphs on specialized techniques and research results for publication or presentation 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
A doctoral degree in a scientific field (Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or equivalent). Strong computer and communications skills. The ability to successfully work with other staff and students on multiple projects simultaneously; ability to work in a dynamic, interactive team environment.

SALARY
$35,508 - $78,660 per year depending on experience and qualifications.
