Lymphocyte Project

The HUMN Project has moved from the phase of preliminary data collection and expression of interest to an active phase. Various aspects of the project have already been completed:
1. The collection and comparison of MN databases. This project was coordinated primarily by Dr. Stefano Bonassi. Those who expressed interest in this particular study sent a detailed data to Stefano. The first paper was published in Mutation Research, 1999. More information on this project is under International MN Database.
2. Comparison of techniques. This aspect was coordinated by Dr. Michael Fenech, Dr. Wushou Chang. More information can be found under Sources of Variability.
3. Long-term prospective study which is aimed at establishing the association between the micronucleus index in lymphocytes and risk for cancer, and other age-related degenerative diseases. Dr. Stefano Bonassi will be mainly in charge of this part of the project.

HUMN organized two international workshops in 1997 in France and 1998 in Thailand.

Please note that we are also keen to have any suggestions you would like to make that could help to improve the quality of HUMN projects. We shall also be seeking advice from a small external advisory group of experts in molecular/cytogenetic epidemiology who are not participating directly in the study. So please do not hesitate to contact us (e-mails on front page).
