At Berkelely teaching assistants (TAs) and research assistants (RAs) are known as graduate student instructors (GSIs) and graduate student researchers (GSRs).
 
GSIs and GSRs are paid a salary and if an appointment meets certain criteria, a portion of assessed fees is paid for the student.
